40 Are you a Mercenary? Or Soldier of God?

    John 10:13; The hireling fleeth because he's an hireling and cares not for the sheep. 
This is what you can expect of hirelings. The hireling / Mercenary will just quit when the wolf comes. The hireling leaves because he doesn't care about the sheep. He will not endanger himself. The hirelings attitude is that he only cares about himself. The mercenary thinks only about what's in it for me and will not lay down his life.
